Wednesday 11th March – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods.

Foil – 18.91 knot max, 17.37 knot ave., 11.34 knot hour, 15.74 knot mile, 29.45 km., 14.06 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 (LW) and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt 5.0 m.

Today looked a better bet to get out on the water as strong winds forecast for tomorrow, with the breeze from the west today and gusting to 25 knots Levington was my go to venue but with low water around 10 I knew I would have it all to myself:) I arrived at the marina just after ten in some lovely sunshine with white horses in the middle of the river, my foil board was quickly set up and I took a chance with my 5m which proved ideal for most of the session! Launching at 11 by the marina entrance I sailed straight out into the deep water and after a few short runs I was sailing down towards the docks where the water was much smoother, there was some usual holes and solid guts but it was great fun, just me and the odd boat on the river, there was some nice gybes to be had especially as I was using a small sail and the only time I went in the water was when I hit a fish which had me off the front! Now being 72 I am finding it harder to sail the miles these days with dodgy thumbs and achy arm so decided to call it a day after an hour and a half beating back to the marina where it was pretty rough in the middle of the river! Snack, pack up, shower and home by 2.30, a nice session in the sunshine:)
I then drove down to Felixstowe Ferry at 5.15 to see the sunset, always nice!
